Skip-it

Written by ImThatOld - 12 April 2011

You fixed the Skip-it at your ankle with a plastic hoop and you made it turn around your leg and tried to avoid the “ball” with the other leg… very simple to explain, not that easy for me when I was a kid. It was a very popular toy in the 80s and as a boy I have to admit now that I loved playing my sister’s one when she wasn’t around :)

There was a digital screen to count how many turns you did without falling miserably with the skip-it around your neck…

The Boglins

Written by ImThatOld - 7 April 2011

Boglins were rubbery hand puppets that looked like small monsters.

They were sold in a kind of cardboard jail, I loved the packaging, and I guess every kids loved it too because it was impossible to find a non damaged one in the supermarket…

You could find a boglin easily 22 years ago… in 1989.

Here is the commercial :

“If you take us home, we’ll kiss your Aunt Martha, we’ll eat your peas, and we hope you know lots of girls.”

Etch A Sketch

Written by ImThatOld - 28 March 2011

Everybody without exceptions had one…  and everybody agrees that it’s IMPOSSIBLE to draw something good with the “magic screen” or you have to spend a lot of time training, and you don’t have time when you’re a kid :) but still, I loved it and I bought one recently. Even 20 years after it’s seem impossible to me but I keep trying !

Of course you’ll still find these annoying (I’m jealous) people able to do artwork with it… for example this Etch-a-Sketch artist

And because everybody wants to know : how does the Etch a sketch work ???

For the more nostalgics, you can still buy this Etch a sketch iPhone case

Tomy Turnin’ Turbo Dashboard

Written by ImThatOld - 7 March 2011

My first car was a racing car and i was 5 :)

When we look at it now, we have to admit it was not that good… BUT I have more memories of the Tomy Turnin’ Turbo Dashboard than any Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport. Yes, i’m that old !

Tomy start selling the Turnin’ Turbo Dashboard in 1983, 28 years ago.

Here is a video to remember it (love the motor sound) :
